Our Expectations

Our expectation is that you will either be working, going to school, in outpatient therapy, or performing volunteer work. Everyone is expected to be functioning and proactive. We expect that you are eventually preparing yourself for independent living. We do not have a time limit and you are permitted to live at Hoover House for as long as you feel you need us, however you must be active in your lifestyle.

Your Expectations

We believe that you are seeking a safe place in which to recover from your addiction. A place that is peaceful and well managed. The purpose of weekly house meetings is to assure that all and any problems, no matter how minor are resolved at our house meetings.

Rules of Hoover House

You will complete an application and sign that you have read and understand the rules of the house.

You will be drug tested, Drug testing is mandatory. If you refuse a drug test for any reason you will be considered having failed the test. Failing a drug test is cause for immediate dismissal from the house.

It is a requirement that former heroin users must get a monthly Vivitrol shot and give documentation from a licensed physician that they have received the medication. Residents are considered to be responsible to take their own medications properly and on time. Any medications that have potential for abuse will be kept in the house safe.

After 30 days, you are permitted to stay out 2 nights per week, (any night) with special permission. You are required to give 24-hour notice and leave a written address and telephone number of where you are staying. There is a 2:00 AM curfew on Friday and Saturday only for special occasions with 24-hour notification and special permission. Except for special permissions there is a midnight curfew for all nights.

  • You are required to sign in and out; in this way we know who is in and who is out of the house at all times. Example would be Time Out 4:00 PM work or shopping or visiting friend, Time In 7:00 PM. Sign in and out each time you enter and leave the house.
  • You share a kitchen, you are required to clean up after yourself at all times. No dishes are permitted in the sink overnight. Do not take any other person’s food without permission.
  • Each person is required to do a chore once a week. This chore should be completed by Sunday evening.
  • The house meeting is mandatory. You are permitted to miss one house meeting per month for a good reason. You must give 24-hour notice that you are missing a house meeting. You Are required to participate in the house meeting by bringing any issues, concerns or disturbances to the meeting.
  • If there is an interview scheduled at the house meeting, you are required to interview and vote for the potential incoming resident.
  • You are permitted to have children over two nights per week, as long as they are not a disruption to the household.
  • No male or female visitors are permitted.
  • Televisions should not be left on all night. Set the sleep button for the time to shut it off.
  • Turn all lights out when not using them.
  • Do not let the cats out. No candles or incense is permitted to be used.
  • All rent is due on the 1st of the month unless given permission to pay on a different day.
  • Residents of the household, must either be working or attending drug and alcohol treatment, going to school or performing volunteer work. No-one is permitted to sit around and do nothing.
  • Residents who have not yet established work or treatment are on a five-hour limit. They are not permitted out of the house more than five hours per day.
  • If a resident is going to be out more than 12 hours they are required to touch base with Darlene Hoover or house manager either by texting or calling. Upon leaving the house or returning, peek into the living room and make eye contact with Darlene Hoover.
  • There is a fine for not shutting off heaters, baseboard heat or air conditioners when you are not at home. Turn off all fans and televisions when not at home.
  • Check both front and back doors at night, make sure they are locked after midnight.
  • If you are put out of the house, you have one week to retrieve your clothing and personal belongings otherwise clothing will be donated to the house or a charity.
  • You will not receive any rent money back once it has been paid. You will receive your sobriety deposit back if you leave clean and sober and on good terms.Please give a one week notice if you decide to move.
